Psych Me Out focuses on mental health in the Black community

Psych Me Out was founded to reduce the disparities in mental health resources in the Black community.

Psych Me Out is a grassroots nonprofit organization that aims to improve the Black community’s quality of life by inspiring individuals to care for their mental health. We are based in New Jersey, with roots extending to New York and the DMV metropolitan area. Given the lack of Black psychologists in the field and the increased likelihood for Black individuals to experience mental illness, it is crucial that resources are readily available for the community to access and learn about. Psych Me Out strives to provide just that.

Practice gratitude such as acknowledging what you have as compared to what you don’t have. Be thankful for the good that is happening in your life.

All things mental health… by two millennial Black Psychologists

Psych Me Out was founded by Dr. Alexis Ferguson (Dr. Lex) and Dr. Garrick Beauliere (Dr. G), two Black millennial psychologists.

Dr. G was born and raised in New Jersey. He has a PsyD in clinical psychology.  He is a licensed clinical psychologist in MD. He is fan of the NY Giants, Arsenal FC, and Dallas Mavericks. He is an avid traveler and he has visited over 15 countries between the Caribbeans, Europe, and Asia. He is also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated. In his spare time, he enjoys watching anime, Law and Order SVU, horror/thriller movies, and documentaries.

Dr. Lex was born and raised in New Jersey. She earned her PsyD in School/Clinical Child Psychology in 2022. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in NJ and NY. She loves to cook, bake treats, laugh and spend time with her friends and family. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Our Reach

When in graduate school, Dr. Lex and Dr. G often talked about disparities in mental health resources in the Black community and decided that they wanted to create a platform for Black voices of all ages to get the help they need. So in January 2022, they put their ideas into action and Psych Me Out came to be.
Within just six months of launching Psych Me Out as a digital platform, its following increased by almost 900%. The expertise of the founders coupled with their passion to help the Black community is something that differentiates Psych Me Out from others in the field as it allows the company to target a wide range of identities and mental health topics. As such, Psych Me Out’s content touches a variety of topics such as anxiety, suicide, black psychology, how to choose or find a therapist, grief, therapy vs therapeutic, feminism vs womanism, and more.

Since its inception, Psych Me Out has been recognized by local and national organizations for its commitment to mental health. The organization hosts regular coping skill and meditation events, provides trainings to companies in need, and hosts a monthly Q&A series with prominent mental health advocates. Dr. Ferguson and Dr. Beauliere have also been featured in the Associated Press, on WURD Radio, EUR Web, and have been invited guests to host one-on-one office hour sessions at Revolt World as well as many other invited panels/discussions.
